“Don't ever give up.
Don't ever give in.
Don't ever stop trying.
Don't ever sell out.
And if you find yourself succumbing to one of the above for a brief moment,
pick yourself up, brush yourself off, whisper a prayer, and start where you left off.
But never, ever, ever give up.”

Sometimes I Find it Hard To See...

Sometimes I find it hard to see,
and tend to favor,
what it is to me.

When I spill my old, cold tea,
I do not blame myself,
but instead, that the cup was too heavy.

And when the meal is too late,
I find it impossible just to state,
that I could not find a single plate!

Surely I am, inside my head,
perfect in each and every way,
from rising up to laying down.

I often try not to see,
the table that is on my eyes,
how good just a speck would be!

And when I wander grumpily about,
making myself a grump that walks,
surely with irritation, my life is fraught!

Like a diamond, I think myself,
unblemished, cut,
a shining example, belonging not on the shelf.

And yet when I consider,
and tell myself the truth,
I am often old fruit, dry and bitter.

So I frown a bit, and let my guilt,
begin to cover my thoughts,
as might a quilt.

And I say to myself,
"come on, Lad, you know the score,
now pick yourself up off the floor.

"The Sahara dunes will not be violet,
if the sand shines far too bright,
and makes you utter threat.

"So don't beat around the bush,
and finally, start to, for once,
actually water that old, dry bush!"

So I smile coldly,
and press on,
finally knowing I'm in the wrong.
